Bicycling Magazine’s BikeTown project started as a tiny idea...could having a bike change someone's life? Now in its seventh year, the answer is clearly YES! BikeTown gives people free bicycles – you could get a new bicycle, too! BikeTown has resulted in hundreds of wonderful stories about people who have lost weight, re-connected with their families, overcome depression, saved money by riding to work or lived a healthier lifestyle by adding bicycling to their daily lives.
This year's BikeTown communities are:
Chicago
Miami
Nassau County
Atlanta
Los Angeles
Jackson
Phoenix
BikeTown 2009 is sponsored by MetLife and Jamis Bicycles and recipients will be given a free, new Jamis bicycle along with a Lazer helmet and OnGuard lock. If you know someone whose life could be changed by a free, new bicycle tell Bicycling Magazine about them in 50 words or less at www.bicycling.com/biketown.
Entries due by August 24.
The giveaway will be at Eisenhower Park, Pear and Peach areas, on Thursday September 3 at lunchtime. We usually have some bicycles that don't get claimed and we will have a drawing to give them away to whoever is at the giveaway. Even if your essay doesn't get chosen initially, you have a chance at getting a bicycle if you come to the giveaway on Thursday September 3rd!
This sounds too good to be true, but it's not. The bicycle is yours to keep. The reason for BikeTown is just to see how having a bicycle can change someone's life. Are you ready to change your life by making cycling part of it? Submit a brief essay to www.bicycling.com/biketown
