I know, I know. I haven't posted in a while. I've been busy with work and reading Possibly Notable Books and school and picking popcorn out of my not very impressive cleavage.
I've also been involved with an exciting Mail Art project. A bunch of artists, myself included, pledged to send postcard-sized works of art to each other. Thirty-three artists signed up, so in the end, if everyone pulls their weight, 1056 little pieces of art will have been exchanged.
The really cool thing about this is that we all met through Twitter. Ah, see, there is a moral and a connection to librarianship! Before the Mail Art project, I was kind of down on Twitter. I mean, if you use Facebook and update your status frequently, what's the point? Well, while the strength of Facebook is the ability to reconnect with friends and share a bunch of different types of information in one place, the strength of Twitter is the ability to follow people you don't know and track topics as they become popular. So by using Twitter and following an artist called Art_News, I was able to connect with a community of artists all over the globe. It's really something.
We're hoping to have an actual exhibit of all of the postcards, but for now, you can see all of them virtually on Flickr. Search for #Mailart or look at my stuff to get there: I'm Lizo18.
